Current Show: March 19th through May 6th 2005

Keeping to the minimalist theme of our Sumi-e show, we offer fewer words, more pictures. Our talented trio consists of students Ellen Miffitt and Andrea Erickson, mentored by teacher Fumiko Kimura. The discipline of this ancient form requires great focus and preparation, as each stroke is defining as well as a commitment -- there is no going back if one's ideas change! Crisp and clean and clear, each piece invites the viewer to a place where peace reigns. The raw power of the brush strokes is mediated solely by the control of the artists. Mental, emotional, and spiritual preparation provide the basis of these seemingly simple paintings of classic forms, even when whimsy creeps into the paintings as the subject matter. Harmony and balance are carefully captured and contained in each sumi-e painting, a combination guaranteed to catch your attention.

To accent this group, we are tickled to offer the Zen Art creations by Nola Tresslar. Nola has labored years to perfect these small gems of great impact. They are thrilling additions to the art landscape. Ellen, Andrea, and Fumiko have skillfully crafted an astonishing presentation for you, so please plan a visit -- or two -- and allow this Art to transport you to a simpler, safer haven. The work of these artists epitomizes the rigorous standards of Northwest Sumi-e; seeing is believing, but owning a piece of tranquility to enhance your own meditative space is that which will make a winner out of you -- this is the art form for every home. Even yours!!

It just keeps getting better! Sylvia Baker has helped transform our Rose Room by bringing her lush floral oils -- a smashing variety of sizes and -- oh boy! -- What good prices!! Classic "old world" oils in very nice presentations are just what we (and you!) needed for a make-over. Decadence can really be yours.

You won't believe what Patricia Van Cleave has made from emu eggs until you see them. These eggs are pierced and carved in a variety of scenes, using the natural colors and textures inherent in the eggs. And here's a hint: they are NOT white. Not content with the original pieces designed for the show, Nola Tresslar has invented a form of paperweights to add to her already impressive Zen Art collection; we think these are very nice even if you don't have paper to weight!

Kathy Porter has been fusing up a storm, in glass, that is. Like glass? We have the finest selection you can find at prices mere humans can actually afford. And we've been busy again re-inventing the Gallery, both inside and out. While, we've been stymied by roof repairs, it hasn't stopped our endless quest to create new looks, nooks, and crannies.

Spring means something serious here: it signals the renewal of our [never-ending] Warm and Dry Diaper Drive. We appreciate how many worthy causes have asked for your help, particularly regarding the tsunami relief efforts. This one hits right here at home. Pure and simple: particularly in this economy, there are too many Little Ones whose caregivers cannot afford diapers. We do the collecting, you do the donating [diapers or money], and the folks at the Salvation Army do the screening for those who are deserving and needy. Simple. Easy! You will feel better for it. Honest!!
